HHI-EMD announced that it has completed the development of methanol dual fuel HiMSEN engines

news-details

The Hyundai Heavy Industries - Engine & Machinery (hereafter HHI-EMD) announced that it has completed the development of methanol dual fuel HiMSEN engines (model name: H32DF-LM, 4,000~6,000bhp), and successfully completed the Type Approval Test at their Techno center, Ulsan with seven classification member, including KR(Korea), ABS(USA), DNV-GL(Norway) from 28th, Sep. to 30th, Sep.

The H32DF-LM engine, which demonstrated excellent performance and quality in this time, is a Gen-set engine that selectively uses methanol and diesel fuel, and is characterized by significantly reducing emissions and greenhouse gases such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. In addition, it prevents corrosion with special materials and applies diesel cycle combustion and electronically controlled fuel injection (Common Rail) methods in methanol mode to enable stable high-power operation.

Meanwhile, the first methanol HiMSEN engine will be delivered to the 2,100TEU container vessel that is built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in December, and a total of 50 engines(13 vessels) have been ordered so far. HHI-EMD is expecting that the Methanol HiMSEN engine demand should increase because variable vessel types are considering the methanol fueled vessel.
